Been lurking here for a while. Great forum. Lots of good info.
I have a 95 Grand Laredo 6Cyl 120k +
Heard a loud whining noise this morning on the way to work.
Stopped at a friends garage on the way. He used the old long screwdriver held to his ear and the pulleys and figured out that the lower idler pulley is shot. I got the part, but I notice there are two identical looking idler pulleys.
Are these both the same?
Should I replace both while I am in there?
He said the Power steering pump controls the belt tension, but NAPA seems to thing there is a spring tensioner on one of the idler pulleys.
Does anyone have diagrams or more info?
Thanks in advance.
Pete

Upper and lower idler pulleys are identical.
Something to be aware of.
The lower pulley has a nut under the alternator
which is a B!TCH to get at. Can't see it without a mirror.
Lossen the serpentine belt.
Have the new Idler pulley within reach before removing the old one.
Get a 15mm socket on the nut under the alternator.
Lossen the bolt in the center of the pulley also 15mm.
Hold the nut in place and swap the idler pulley and hopefully you will be able to get the bolt started with out dropping it.
Worked for me.
Good luck
