I have got a 93 XJ that I purchased not too long ago and 4H is not working at all 4L works fine. It has a D30 front axle with a warn lock-out kit installed. Next quick question should the transfer case have gear oil or ATF? the book calls for ATF but mine seems to have gear oil in it I do not think that is right. This thing is begining to make me want my K-5 back never had a problem with the Chevy.

The FSM recommends ATF for the transfer case....Dexron II.

I don't know about your 4H trouble.. I'm learning here too!!!

When I bought my '99 I was told to replace all fluids first thing. You never what the last guy used.

Find a good sized parking lot. Shift the transfer into 4H.
With the transmission in drive.
Drive in a circle and the steering should kick back a little.
The front axle should shift power from left to right.
This should tell you the transfer is working properly.
Try this if it feels normal check the transfer linkage.
And yes Chevys have transfer problems too.
Why dont you see them on the trails??
