So I've now figured out why my 4wd isn't working... My vacuum lines are severed. Just great! So I have an '89 XJ and the vacuum lines to the front axle actuator are broken which leads me to my question: what do I do now? Obviously I need to replace the lines because there is no way that they could be repaired... but how do I replace them? It doesn't look too hard to run the lines from the engine compartment to the transfer case, but where do I get new lines? Do I have to get them out of a junk yard or is there someplace else that I can get them? Would napa carry vacuum lines that I could cut to length? Sorry about all of the questions, it's just that I'm kind of befuddled as to why Jeep would have such a stupid system. Thanks for anyone's generous help. I really do appreciate it.

You can get the vacuum tubing and fittings (most are likely brittle and will break as soon as you touch them, at least my experience when I replaced vacuum line going to Cruise Control on mine) at most any local parts store. Simple matter to cut to length and replace.

Hey man, thanks a lot. I was hoping it would be that easy. I''ll have to run down to napa and see about some lines. Thanks again.
