hello , i have a 89 Cherokee 2 door , 4.0 L automatic . i recently acquired it and have been hammering on it ever since .

anyway i was wondering why i have a dana 35 in the rear and a 44 in the front . the diff cover says 44 but according to every list of axles for a Cherokee i can't have a 44 up front (i don't believe it was added in, also it is american , even thow im canadian )

also my engine is pooched (a 50 psi difference in compression in several cylinders) so im just going to buy a newer one . im wondering if the 4L in the grand cherokee will fit in my jeep . i can buy jeeps from icbc and there are alot more grand cherokee's then cherokee's so before i buy one i figured i would ask .

also if the next engine is also high milage i was going to stroke it . .030 over bore , crank , pistons , rod's , injectors and so on . simply because i can have it done for very little .

i was also want to lift my front end 3" . i already did the rear with some 5 pack's out of a suburban , they were the same length and width , just with another leaf and more agressive arc , then finsihed it with some rancho shocks . anyway lifting my front 2 "or 3 " , springs and shocks? or do i need a little more

thanks for any reply's

A 4.0 from a GC should fit nicely in your XJ, considering it's the exact same engine that was put in XJ's. As for the lift, you will need springs, shocks, and new lower control arms, because the old ones will hit the top of the bracket with the steeper angle the axle will be at.

Haha sounds good Finger I plan on buying a junker and pulling the 4x4 bits out of it and throwing them under my 2WD Embarassed

the grand 4.0 bolts right in but you have to change the water pump and the fan and some other tid bits like that, i think you use the xj intake too.

as for the front end it should be a Dana 30, but if you post a pic up im sure it can be positively identified

i also think its a dana 30 . im just really curious why it would say dana 44 right on the diff cover .

i would probobly try and put the cooling system out of the other vehicle . im not a big fan of the pressure bottle cooling system .

its very difficult to bid on a crashed jeep , you never know whats its really worth .
