whats your gage say , it should read around 14.5 volts while running . you could put a multimeter on the battery while the car is running and see if it is charging , or put an amp clamp on the wire out of the alternator to see if its charging .

could be a bad starter , or dieing starter . did you get a battery with the same cca and reserve ?

ouch that sucks , starters are expensive . i did find something neat though
sell price your price core price
ACDELCO US Starter 323-1047 192.490 115.3900 100.0000

so i can get a starter for 15 $ if i bring in the old one . haha , they seem to float around 200$ canadian for a refab and 300$ non-refab . but the core charge is like 80-100$ so thats not actually that bad.

hey you would be surprised how many people put the wrong batterys in vehicles , mine was to tall when i bought it and had a inner tube ontop so it woudlnt short on the hood . *sigh some people

I have a 1988 XJ. My alt gauges is not been accurate for years.
When I have headlights, heater on and radio my gauge reads 9 volts.
At battery I am at 14.5 volts. The problem is in the dash.
I have lived with it for years.Prior to 1991 the French did some weird stuff.
The time of the 1984-1990? AMC and Renault were working together.
The older XJs had a lot of French tech stuff.
