i have searched this site for a good hour for my problem. After 6 months of trail and error i pulled the code on my 96 jeep grand Cherokee limited edition inline six 4.0 2wd P0740 torque converter clutch , no RPM drop at lockout problem. From mu understanding of it the solenoid is hanging up its not stalling but almost does sometimes. Can anyone confirm this and is this something easily done or does a tech have to do this??

Sounds like the shift solinoid valve is stuck.. You can do it yourself but you better get a good service manual before you start into a job like this.. I dont mean a vehicle manual I mean a transmission specific manual..

When I rebult my tranny I got the components and manual and components from Oregon Performance transmission..

I am feeling lazy I couldnt find their sight.. So here is another that has the same kinda stuff...

http://www.importperformancetrans.com/chryslerautorwd.shtml

Pay special attention to the hard parts if you decide to rebuild it yourself..

The Manuals are listed in miscellaneous ...

Also here is a PDF manual for the your tranny..

One last thing... If you decide to tackle it yourself.. Let me know I did a pretty good write up on tranny rebuild That I am going to post today anyway. I will try to get it onto the tech page.. but it will certainly be here..

It does not however involve any of the solenoid changes.. Nor did I include the Shift kit install .. They are both very simple so I left those steps out..

However you can always mail me your shift kit and valve body and I will do them and post pics for you... rofl
