hello im a newb and i dont own a jeep. however, my brother does and he wants things to do to it. he has a 97 zj with the straight 6 4.0L. the transmission recently took a dump and is in the shop to get another one. so since he is fixing that he decided to add some things to the appearance.

i read that the biggest tire that i can stick on the stock body is a 30x 9.5.

now i want to know what people think about the 2" spacers? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-Complete-2-LIFT-KIT-Wrangler-Grand-Cherokee_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33585QQihZ015QQitemZ250079358482QQrdZ1

also will the 2 inch spacer allow me to add a 31" tire? this car will not be used to go off-road and only makes trips up to the snow to go skiing.

thank you in advance and if i need to search harder, please supply links before massive flammage to this newb

Check out the sticky post at top of grand cherokee forum labeled Grand Cherokee Spcs and FAQ, by Swamp Boy. I think this might set you up. BTW those budget spacers are fine if no off road, but there are other ways to get 2'' up way better, almost as cheap. Like doing the rear to front spring swap. Use the "search" function in this forum, you'll find tons of answers. Good Luck!
PS no flammage in here!!

You can fit bigger tires than 30's on stock..

Depending on how much you trim off your fenders.. Mr. Green

Very little flaming here.. We are pretty nice guys..

The coil spacers will work fine, on or off road. As long as you are not stacking them there is no problem. You'll need longer shocks also. Coil spacers are great because you can use them with lift springs in the future for additional lift. I've been running spacers for a while and have not seen any problem, believe me I have put them through rigorous trials. I would recommend them for a quick 2" option.

so even with the spacers i would have to get longer shocks? makes sense. and im not gonna be trimming anything off of the jeep. haha.

one more question, with the spacers and shocks, will the biggest tire i can put there still gonna be a 30x9.5?

This is what I have. I got the ZJ lift with the bar pin eliminators so I didn't have to buy new shocks right away. I fit 31s and have been offroading them for about a year and some. I do want to get new shocks but just haven't spent the money on them yet.

Maybe a tiny bit off the bottom of the bumper to keep it from rubbing..

Maybe a 45% angle from about 2: up to the bottom of the bumper.. Hard to describe..

I think I have a picture somewhere let me see if I can find it..

Couldnt find it but here are a few with 31's and BB..

Old pics.. But you can see that I trimmed the bumper..

(Yes thats a broken axle on the Dana 35 rear..Finger )

Here is a picture of the axle after...(click to enlarge.)

And here is one with 3.5 (I think ) and 33's

Obviously trimmed the fenders in that one.. Mr. Green

And since I was digging in the old photo album.. Here is my favorite picture from back when I was mostly stock...

is BB budget boost?

swamp boy: with the 2" lift, the 31's fit with trimming?

viper24242: i see your also running 31's, did you have to trim any?

and for the 31" tire, will the stock rims fit the tires. bc all i can find is a 31x10.5 tire, not a 31x9.5

I trimmed away my bumper the way swampy did for looks and to get rid of all that bumper... and swampy is my hero but thats besides the point.

31x10.50s will fit your stock rims. I am still using my stock "saw blade" style rims and they fit just fine. I would like to get a little more back spacing to get my tires out off the track bar though. You will probably hear some rubbing on the track bar in real tight turns but I haven't noticed any ill affects on my tires or track bar.

If you put 31x10.5 on stock wheels they will rub at full lock. If you put on MTs then you should probably adjust your turn stops to prevent rubbing. Otherwise a cheap set of black steel rims with the correct back spacing would be a relatively cheap fix.
