I need to replace my harmonic balancer. It fell apart today...shredded the belt as well. I know I need a puller to do it. I wonder if it will come with a new key as well. Are there any special issues I need to knwo before doing this? It's parked in a parking lot and that's where I'll be doing it. There isn't anywhere to run for parts once I get there.

Thanks,

Tom

Thanks for the reply... I was hoping someone would hit it that day when I was at work stressing out over it!! ha-ha!! I posted that 6 days ago... the job is done. I took Autozone's loaners, both the puller and the installer... easy to do with the right tools. I bought the FSM when I bought my '99 XJ. I'll have to post a pic of it soon.

Thanks again!

The rubber is probably wearing out.. mine has 145,000 mi on it. I bought it at Autozone for around $68. They'll rent ya the puller for $15 and the installer for $33. Yeah, I hear ya.. I should have posted it in the XJ section to get a quick response and then let them move it later..

There's no room to hold, align and beat that sucker back on there. Trust me.. get the installer.. it's a loaner tool. I tried for 20 minutes without it.. it only took 5 minutes once I had the proper tool. It went on with no trouble at all.
