Hello all,
I have a 83 CJ7 with a 258 4.2L 6 cyl. It has an Offenhauser header and a Holley 4BBL carb. The carb is a piece of crap! I can not keep the timing in check. I would like to put a new carb on it. Can someone suggest another brand of carb to replace this. Or should I go ahead and put a 2BBL carb on it. I would prefer to keep it as a 4BBL. Thank you!

Why do you think your carb is bad? It has nothing to do with the timing. I'm running a 500 cfm Edelbrock on my 4.2 with Clifford intake, headers, HEI, etc. While I think this carb is plenty big, it seems to handle it fine. There's nothing wrong with a Holley as long as it is in good condition and setup correctly. Go to Holley's website and you'll find specs on which power valve to use, jets, etc. The power valve in particular can make a big difference. Good luck.
