I'm in the planning stages of a custom front bumper creation. I have looked through many an off-road magazine and website and measure (a lot - over and over again).
I opened up some CAD software and started in on it, and the following are what I have come up with. It is not totally complete, but it is getting close.
I fabbed it up last night using cardboard to cut out the pieces, and it came together nicely.
I am planning on building it out of 1/8" or 3/16" steel (haven't decided yet) with the two rails coming out of the frame of my ZJ made from 1/2"

Suggestions? Comments? Should I do a write up if I ever get around to getting it all together?

how much is that thing gona stick out?
im gona make a bumper for mine too in the next 3-4 weeks.

im getting a front 2" reciver from hidden hitch and im gona bolt that up and weld some 1/4 plate to 3 sides of that and it will go across and it will be completly verticle, that way ill have a good approach angle and still have good protection up front.

ill take some pictures when the hitch gets here.

The center is 10" from front to back. I think that is plenty for anyone who is wanting to mount a winch.

I'd love to see how this project will turn out. Please do post your write up on this Brad. Is there room for winch as well?

I am working on one myself. I will dram up some cad diagrams and post them up. It is basically a 2x6 or 2x8 peice of square steel tubing bent at the ends and with a front hitch, 2 D rings, and a light/winch gaurd made of steel tubing.

The center panel on my bumper design will be removable. There will be some bracing inside for a winch mount.
