The Short: I have a 1985 CJ7 with a 1979 304 V8 installed.

The Long: I've always loved Jeeps especially CJ's. On my summer break after freshmen year of college, while visiting, I got free use of my uncle's 'home made' CJ7 and I was hooked. Then 15 years later, I mentioned to my wife that I would really like to get a Jeep, well luck would have it her cousin was selling his. After buying the 1979 CJ7 sight unseen, I was for a rude awakening... it was rough, too rough for me. After I made up my wish list on how to fix it to just how I would want it I figured it would be cheaper just to buy a different one.
Then I found a 1985 CJ7 on Ebay for just the right price. It is nice, looks awesome. The only problem was that the engine did not have much power in high speeds. Knowing I wasn't going rock crawling too often, I decided to swap the engine with the V-8 of the '79 I already owned and then sell the old shell.

So here I stand with an '85 jeep with a '79 engine in it. I've already done my share of work on it, but what can you expect from a 21 year old vehicle.

Don't know whatever happened with my uncle's old one, he doesn't have it anymore.

Just took me an hour to figure out how to make an avatar, the pictures will come.

The Tranny: it is actually the 1985 automatic, from what I understand somewhat rare, don't know the exact numbers but had it checked out by a Tranny shop and they said it was in really good shape for having 172k miles. Confused
