What's the deal with the door hinges (welds) snapping off the body ?Seen a couple of parts cherokees and all ahd similar problems. Anyone ever weld their own back on and waht were the results ?? I'm kind of worried about heat damage (weakening) any way to swap to bolt up hinges??

I've done a few myself. EXTREME- I always like to cut the old one off, if it hasn't yanked it's self off 100% rofl Go behind it with a 1/4 thick plate bigger than the opening and weld that puppy up. Grind smooth and re-weld the hinge on. MILD ( simple weld break )- I have done a couple that I grinded the old welds off and re welded, worked great. Just don't weld on it all at once or the heat can warp it. Hope this helps Mr. Green

Thanks for the info, about what i had figured. know anything about the repair kits jeep sells ( supposedly ) for this problem? They claim a no weld remedy, under service bulletin 23-017-02, but so far all I'v found are references to this bulletin and not the actial bulletin itself w/ the instructions for repair.
Are there any other common problems to older cherokees i should be on the lookout for? My first jeep. thanks for the help......

Yea, I've had to weld mine twice in 2 years. Both times I had to remove the door and take the hinge off completely and re-weld it back on. Big pain in the ass IMO. If it happens again, I'm just gonna lock the door and get in from the passengers side!

I had to weld mine too. I just ground the old weld off and rewelded. I also welded the part of the hinge facing the door opening, there is no factory weld there. Hoping it adds some strength. So far it's been fine.

Emr you could always weld the door seam and go "Dukes Of Hazzard" style!!!
