ok guys im a newbie and im kinda stuck im not sure whats my next step i have a 93 zj 4litre with the 42re and when i do the 4 key turns on my dash it comes up 12-21-55, and in the hanes manuel it says thats and 02 sensor and i also ran the codes doing the 4 key turns and watched the overdrive light and it comes up with a 24-55, online i have read that a code 21 is a governor pressure solenoid and im not sure what the 24 is? but my trannys not right either way it shifts hard into third almost every time it shifts and seems to hold all the gears longer then it should and if you are in seond and let off the gas it will shift and clunk into third gear pretty hard. i took it to my friends shop and they tried to hook a genises up to it to read codes and it wouldnt work not sure why tho?? so im pretty lost i would like to no what you guys would suggest i do next i have replaced the 02 sensor and checked the wires and its fine but that code is still up and there is definitly somthing wrong with the trans if anyone has any idea or needs more info please let me know im tight on money and need this jeep and tranny to last me a while!! thanks in advance!

Try resetting the TV cable according to to haynes manual, follow directions to the letter. Check TPS, this commonly makes shift probs. Even a bad temperature sensor can make shift probs. Good Luck.

Here are the trouble code definitions:
Code 12 - No Output Shaft Sensor Signal
Code 21 - Governor Pressure Solenoid Circuit
Code 24 - Overdrive Off Lamp Circuit
The Governor Pressure Solenoid, and Governor Pressure Sensor are probably bad. This is a very common problem with 42/44RE trannys. The Governor Pressure Solenoid/Sensor govern the line pressure inside the transmission. When the Governor Pressure Solenoid/Sensor go bad, they send a false, incomplete pressure signal to the TCM, in turn making the transmission malfunction. They can also falsely trigger other transmission codes. Changing the Governor Pressure Solenoid/Sensor should solve the problem. Read the links below, you're not the first one to post about this problem.
