I've noticed an axle pop on the front drivers side of my 96' Jeep Cherokee when turning, usually a single pop. When I pulled the wheel off I noticed a plastic piece on the axle, right behind the universal joint has split and a piece is missing. I was wondering what this plastic piece is and what purpose it serves?? Thanks for any info!!

i recently pulled an XJ axle out of a junk yard 2 put under my ZJ, and i saw this piece of plastic u are speaking of...i think... is it white? and round?

if so it looked like it was near the opening to the axle tube, allmost as if it was an axle seal, not to keep out water but more like rocks, thick mud and objects that have some size 2 em ( about 1/8 inch or more).

i pulledem off the axle shafts that came with my new axle because i ordered some water proff axle seels so they are worthless to me and in my opinion are nice 2 have but wont matter if u dont have em.
