I have a 1990xj 4x4 with a inline 4.0L. Will this engine mount into a 1986xj 4x4. Also will the trany and transfer case bolt in as well. Thanks for the help.[/img]

the engine will mount in. do you have both auto's? or both manual's or a combination of the two? they should all bolt in . however controls might have to be worked out if you have different transmissions.

you will have to keep the current injection system unless you want to swap over the wiring harness and computer , i would just put the 90 short block in , maybe including the head .

is your 86 also a 4.0L or something else ? if its something else i don't know , i have never owned anything but a 4.0L in a jeep .

What's more, I read somewhere that when the 4.0L was introduced, considerable modifications had to be made to the Cherokee engine bay, meaning that getting it to fit in older models will be very difficult.
