I just won a 98 Grand Cherokee at a police auction in Kansas City. It was A stolen vehickle with the stearing column broke to hell.I put a new one in , with a key, and allready had the door keyed to its origonal key. But my trouble lies with the gas. She wont start. When I turn the key, I cant hear a gas pump noise, plus there is no pressure in the fuel rail, AND on top of that,,,the gas guage does not move off of "E" even after I put in 10 gallons.
Could this be a Fuel Pump gone bad?,, or a alarm thing?
Thanks for any suggestestions.

Sounds like the fuel pump may be unplugged. Check the wiring that goes into the tank. If it's hooked up, check to see if there is power going to the tank. If it has power, then the fuel pump sending unit may be bad.

does it have an alarm? do you have the remote ?

you might have bad pump or no power , but you might also still have the alarm on even though it isn't blaring siren's at you .

does it turn over ? if its turning over then your alarm is probably off .

These are very good questions...

Mainly is it turning over?? If you are turning on the key and its not turning over It could be an ignition problem.. Or if it does turn over and just wont start try pulling the fuel line off of the rail and see if fuel comes out.. (Catch it in a coke bottle or something.)

That gives you something to do ...

If you are getting fuel at the rail but it still not starting check for spark.. If you are getting spark and getting fuel then it could be a timing issue .. (Timing is controlled by crank position sensor)

If you are not getting spark ... Check the coil..

I could go on forever but It would be easier for you to be more specific with the problem you are having..

Tell us exactly what you have checked and what you found and lets see what we come up with..

GOod luck..

Carl

I sure thank every one for your help. I have found (with a suggestion in mind from Orangegmc) that my the electric connection to the fuel pump next to the tank, was loosend up enough to keep my pump from running.
Thanks again-
