Hey folks... I have an opportunity to swap my Cherokee for a YJ. This YJ is a 1990 model with a 4.2L I6. It also has a 3 speed auto with 4x4. I'm not terribly familiar with this year model or any specific quirks/issues it may have. It appears to be in good condition. It has 143K miles on it.

Does anyone know what transmission would be in this YJ (automatic)? Anything I should be looking for? Any not-so-obvious places I should check for rust rot? Anything else?

Thanks!

Cool, thanks. Any known issues with these trannies.... especially considering the mileage (143K)? Any other known issues?

yeah be very wary of the carb. they can be your firend or enemy. they are quite delicate in those wranglers i know a lot of people who absolutely hate them and fewer who love them. be aware also of the vaccum actuated 4x4 shift unit in the front axle. you cherokee doesnt have this and if your vaccum lines have the slightest leak in the yj it wont shift into 4 wheel drive. just a few things to think about.
