Aloha, I am new to jeeping. I bought an 85 CJ7 Laredo and am working to get it into shape. Just had the clutch done and now have a real problem with the rear end. One of the axles in the AMC20 (My research tells me it's a type B) is broken (not sure how) and my buddy doing the work says I need the whole differential. What is my best option if I really want to do this right? I want to wind up with the best set up I can get. Please advise.

In stock form the AMC 20 comes with 2-piece axles and is a POS! If you upgrade the shafts to 1-piece then you now have a decent rear.
If it is just a broken shaft then replace them with the 1-piecers. Is it possible to post a pic of the broken parts?
Your buddy says whole new differential. Does he mean the whole rear or the carrier?
It is extremely common to spin the hubs on the stock 2-piece axles, I bet that is all that's wrong!
