hi everybody, i just got a 00 cherokee 4x4 with 122.000 miles and im going to change the oil today, im going to use mobil 1 but the problem is that i dont know what "thickness" use, the guy at the autoparts store told me to use thick oil because of the mileage but mobil .com recommends10w-30 so i dont know whats better for my car

whats your experience with this oil and what kind of mobil1 you recommend

thanks

10w-30 is fine, I put full synthetic in my last oil change and noticed a little bit better gas mileage, but then i put in 5w-30 mobil 1

id say go with 10w-30 regular, or synthetic

I noticed that I had better oil pressure (which makes me feel better) with 20w-50 oil. I am using Pennzoil. I just got 17.65mpg on my last tank which I filled back up last night. Also, I drive it like a douchebag, allways full throttle. Soooooo, clearly the thicker oil hasn't affected my mpg. It has only increased my oil pressure. Temperatures are normal, pressures are up, mileage is up (by 1 mpg, even though it doesn't make sense to me, it SHOULD be less due to the thicker oil, but whatever)... So I'm cool Pennzoil.

you don't need the synthetic and it could just cause you problems , you can try it but it's just a jeep .

10w30 what ever you want , castrol what ever .

5 out of 6 vehicles in my driveway use the cheep ass walmart tech 2000 oil , 4 are high millage and i mean 1 is half a mill . only the truck gets expensive oil but its engine is worth 10 grand so .....

i have been running cheep oil for a long long time never had a problem with oil break down or damaged components due to an oil failure .

but you can spend 40$ on amsoil if you want Smile

and you now have sludge building up in your engine. use anything but pennzoil. if you really want to use that thick of an oil thats fine, but get rid of the pennzoil.

The difference with Amsoil is that I change my oil once a year or every 20K miles, which ever comes first. If you change your oil every 3K miles or 3 months and do the math, you are spending waaay more money than I am for oil....$40 a year for Amsoil or $15 - $20 a pop, 4 to 7 times a year...that's a no brainer to me. Wink

with the amsoil they recemend 1 year or 25000 miles or 1 year and 15000 miles under extreme conditions. and with the amsoil its protecting your engine better and keeping it cooler.

I run Amsoil in all my vehicles.. (except my dirt bike... Mr. Green )

10/30 in my Montero and Mini and 10W40 in my Jeep..

But I have a V8.. I would go with 10/30 for the 4.0
