I have a 93' jeep cherokee with a 2.5 4cyl 5 spd
the problem i have is starting the engine, when i turn it to the run position my fuel pump is not pumping any fuel and the battery lite does not come on either. So after leaving it in the run position for like three mins, all of a sudden the pump comes to life and so does the battery lite.

this hapends every time when i have to go somewheres, I have to put it in the run position first for about 3 mins, then it kicks on so i can start it.

I have replaced the fuel pump, it still does it.
I have replaced the fuel pump relay, it still does it.
And i even replaced the altenator, and it still does it.

has anyone else had this problem?

I need your help, thanks.

Darrell

I would look at the ignition. Maybe the switch is bad.

I checked out the ignition switch, and took it apart. it's a little worn but not enough to keep the fuel pump from not running.

It sounds like the problem is power not getting to the ECU for some reason. Why it suddenly gets energized after a few minutes is an odd one. Have you pulled the codes?

I don't have my FSM around to look at the wiring diagram... but it sound to me like a relay someplace...

well I don't have a code breaker, do they make them for jeeps? or do i have to get a chrysler/dodge one?

I have a Hayes book that has a page on what im looking for, engine control system. it shows a fuel pump relay between two ballasts resistors and one of them is a relay, but the thing is where to find this relay.

ok i got the codes they are 12, 33, and 55.

what does 12 really mean? just disconected from the battery?

33 i dont have to worry about since i dont have A/C

and 55 that means end of codes right?

Ive noticed now that when it gets cooler out in the the mornings its takes a lot longer for that pcm to kick in the fuel pump relay.

maybe the pcm is going bad, thats an awful thought, takes a big bite out of your wallet to replace it too.

I found the problem, after a long look at the hayes manual I found out that when you turn the key onto the run position it goes directly to the computer then the computer sends a signal to the fuel pump relay to come on.
So the computer was bad, but it did not send any fault codes saying it was bad. so now if anyone has this same weird type of a problem this might be the anwser.

thank you for trying to help me out guys! I appreciate it!
