I painted my flares this past spring, they looked pretty good, until it started flaking off. I used the krylon fusion, on the can it says to clean surface with ammonia and water, so I did. Aparently that didnt take all the wax and oils off. So:
1: Any suggestions on getting the old paint off? Sand it lightly, making sure not to get into the flare? And ideas?
2: What do I clean the flares with? I heard prep all from walmart works well but I cant seem to find it at any of the local walmarts. Any other suggestions that wont eat my flares away?

Anybody know what the flares are made of so I can look on cleaners to see if it is safe?

I'm hoping to get this fixed this weekend. Thanks.

i would sand it off a bit . or try some dot 3 or dot 4 brake fluid and rub it off . just don't get it on the car .

the best paint prep is personally Dupont wash and wipe .

if you are using a spray gun mix some flex agent into the paint and perhaps prime it this time . Very Happy

I am trying some spray-on bed liner stuff I got at Auto Zone. The bed liner spray goes on thick, coating only a couple passes. I tried to spray it without sanding, but it peeled off in one rubbery sheet, I tried to peel it after sanding and re-spraying and now it's not coming off. The spray doesn't have the rough texture that the roll on stuff does, it's also easer to clean too.
As far as prep, I took some 400 grit sand paper then wiped it with brake cleaner, I used brake cleaner because it dries quickly and leaves no residue.
