My wife and I test drove a '99 WJ today.
We did a pretty detailed inspection on our test drive and here's what we found.

Interior:
Carpet stains
Headliner spots/stains
Leather - warn/ some cracks
Pretty clean

Exterior:
Some dents
Some scratches
Paint looks good

Engine:
Oil leak somewhere up high. Possibly valve cover gasket leak.
Checked oil level, was topped off it looked like.
Runs pretty smooth
Starts a little slow

Transmission:
Shifts possibly a little rough 1st-2nd.
Highway acceleration good. Smooth shifting when flooring it up the entrance ramp.
Low on fluid.
Leaking somewhere - oil seen around tranny/transfer case joint

T-case
QuadratracII
All time 4-WD
Seems to work good

Tires
All in fairly good shape-Slight wear on outside edges
Slight squeal around corners.

Accessories:
Power windows - all work except drivers side
Power locks all work
Power seats - all good
CD Player
Remote Start
Lights - rear brake a little dim on passenger side

Steering:
No pull right/left on highway
Turns fairly well

Brakes:
Rotors appear to be in good shape.
Squeaking on braking
Stop good.

Handles overall pretty smooth, acceleration is good, no shuddering or jerking. Has its problems consistent with age apparently - not in 'excellent' condition by any means.

Individual seller asking $6,900. Vehicle has 126,000 miles on it. Was in minor front end fender bender- she said minor cosmetic repair was done. She said no mechanical problems from the wreck.

What do you think? I personally don't think its worth $6,900. Kelly Blue Book value on a '99 with that mileage is $5,800.
Comments / other things to check or look at?

I would neverpay OVER the bluebook value... If nothing else convince her to go down to the bluebook value (if you are going to be selling something for above blue book you better have a ompelling reason).

i agree with duncan. it has an engine leak, tranny leak, transfer case leak, can't roll down the driver's window, and you may end up chasing a wiring issue with the rear tail lights. ask yourself if you want to pay $1100 more than book value on a jeep just to sink more money into it before it's ready for the road. i'd have a hard time looking at myself in the rear view mirror.

Good advice - I wasn't really thinking about paying more than blue book, but I guess I was wondering if with those problems, would it be worth blue book or not?

We are actually only looking for something around $5000, so we might still consider this jeep. I just wanted to know what peoples thoughts on value was.
