I'm no electrical expert here, but just based on my experience that most car batteries need to be replaced every 4 to 5 years on average: Is your battery due for a replacement?

Sounds like you have a partial short somewhere. The following tips will help you troubleshoot it:
1. Press the CAPS LOCK key. Typing in all with CAPS with anything other than ironic/humorous intent does NOT help and makes you look stupid.

2. Remove the cables from the battery. This should be done immediatly as a shorted battery can be a safety issue.

3. Check the battery voltage with a battery checker (not multimeter... You need something that will out at least a small load on it) if you do not have a battery checker wire a light bulb (12v not a bulb like you use for your house.. It can be a dome light bulb, headlight.. Pretty much anything) to the battery. The light bulb PROBABLY will not come one. If it does you have some completely different problem.

3. Measure the resistance between the two wires that went to the battery... If it read less than 5 ohms you have a short somewhere. If not simply charge the battery or buy a new one and put it back in.

Thanks for all the help. When I put the meter on the battery the connections was made between the battery post and the cable. THe under the hood light came blaring on and then everything was fine.
