Ok i've been doing alot of research, as well as trial and error to get a problem solved on my g/f's 1998 Jeep Cherokee. I have recieved some very good help from members already but im stuck now.

We cleaned the nuetral safety switch and adjusted it properly so that it only started in Park and Nuetral. We got the reverse lights working again, but then one went out. The check engine light is no longer on and it starts in Park. She is still getting a 0705 code something about the transmission range sensor. This normally wouldnt concern us at all, except for the fact that we are trying to get it SMOGGED. Crying or Very sad Lovely California law.....

Has anyone else had issues with this code coming up even after cleaning the nuetral safety switch? Should we give it a thorough second cleaning? She said that one or two times the jeep didnt start in park after the cleaning. Does that mean the whole unit might just be crapped out?

I know this topic is getting old all jeep forums are littered with this kind of info but they usually only talk about cleaning it and its fixed, now i'm on the hunt for getting that 0705 code to disappear. Thanks for taking the time to read this and any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

If there's a fault in the NSS PRNDL circuit, or if the plug-end and/or NSS is bad you'll get a code 0705.
Chances are your NSS is bad which seems to be a common; about the only problem them bullet-proof AW4's have... Very Happy
Before you buy a new one check the plug-end for damage... NSS switches are expensive.
