I'm looking at a used 2005 grand cherokee with "AWD". It has 48k miles and the guy is asking $11,500 cash. It was previously a rental car (up to 28k miles). It comes with an extended warranty to 100k. but still, I'm wondering if this is a good deal?

If this sounds like an OK deal (knowing it was a rental car)... how can I tell if it has AWD? Is there a badge, marking somewhere.. or do I need to look under the front for something?

The easiest way to tell, is the plate around the t-case shifter. What does it say?

Are you sure? There has to be a way to shift the t-case into neutral for towing purposes!

Yeah.. its what the Jeep dealer said based on the VIN - its all-time 4wd. I don't really like that, but its a cheap deal. I guess maybe it shifts out the front axle automatically when you put it into neutral. not sure.

most newer vehicles you have to pull the drive shaft or put them on dolly's even if it has a neutral .
