i have "the" oil leak on my 87 comanche(oil in the air box). i read on here before that to make this go away just replace the manifold that has all the vacume lines going to it. well, i did that but i got it off a doner cherokee. i inspected the one from the doner truck and it looked almost brand new. i have checked and double check to make sure a have everything hooked up right. and i'm still leaking oil like crazy. furious i looked into just sucking it up and buying a new part cause someone said they were only $35 or so, but that is way off. to buy both sides the total is $146. i'm leary about buying this part and it still leak. i guess what i need to know is, is there anything else that can cause this type of oil leak, and if there is a cheaper DIY way to fix this problem such as PCV valve or something. thanks.

There is a sticky on it heading the Cherokee/Comanche Forums.. Tech writings.. You will want to check out your Crankcase breather tubes elbows etc.. rear ends up getting plugged and crankcase pressure spits oil through fresh air breather into air box.. Can also be sludged engine.. in which case you may need to pop valve cover and clean it thoroughly.

Take a peek at this link, I believe this may apply to your issue...

Good Luck..

Well your 1987 is a high mileager. Meaning your compression rings
are worn. Anywhere from 100,000 miles and up this happens.
Ways you can help or slow down this is to replace the tubes from the air cleaner to the valave cover. Replace the back one with the upgraded TSB
that a Jeep dealer doesnt know about . He should only have that one.
Or go to a salvage yard and get a 1991 vavle cover and upgrade to that yearI did thsi on my 1988 and the replacement parts are much cheaper.
The 1987-1990 ventilation tubes are about $60.00 bucks and can onlt be gotten from the dealer. My first engine blowing oil into the air cleaner
(2 quarts in 36 miles) 225,000 miles. Second engine (used) over 200,000
miles is showing signs of blowby but nothing to worry about.
330,000 miles to date.

High mileage does increase blow by without a doubt, all though shouldn't be a discouragement
My Cherokee is 247,000+ miles and rings are getting weak, has blow by, and burns some oil, but it isn't blowing oil into air box, just having other issues, at this point seems to be fuel pump LOL..

Lack of sludge build up in top end and clear breathing for crankcase ventilation should help or eliminate the problem.
