Again, I've not found anything that answered my question when I searched. Sorry if this has been discussed before. My question is:

Are the fender liners REALLY necessary? I'm about to put my flare back on and the liner looks like it's going to be a pain to have to deal with, trying to get my fingers up in there. Also, it looks like removing them might assist with venting hot air from under the hood.

They prevent huge globs of mud from getting up in there. At the same time trapping all the small globs. One of my XJ's has them and one doesn't. Either way you'll be fine! Mr. Green

I haven't had liners in mine for about 2 years, and the only problem seems to be that a lot more grit gets on the door hinges, so now front door hinges squeek and grate when I open them. There is also the potential of kicking up a rock and cracking the windshield wiper fluid bottle if you have a 1997+, though that hasn't happened yet in the 2 years I've had mine removed.

Thanks guys. Well, since my doors already squeak and grate when I open them, might as well not have the liners. Pulled one out tonight. I'm going to clean the insides, then maybe shoot them with some rustoleum.
