Before I start, let me say plaese be kind Mr. Green Finger rofl rofl

Sadly we had to sell Zilla Sad Things are getting better for us and I hope by Feb. to be debit free and shopping for a new toy, er um Jeep, yeah Jeep that's the ticket Wink

So my question is should we get another XJ? Go with a ZJ?? I know tons about XJs and just a little on the Grands. The grand's back seat seams bigger? A little extra room would be nice with the 3 trail bosses rofl Personaly I would like to get one with the 4.0 motor. Easy to work on and I know a lot about it. To me it's a HELL of a good motor!! Grands do look dam good lifted and look tough to me too.

So I guess guys I need to know is there more room? Better ride, I know they made them more comfy rofl . Disadvantages of lifting one or buying a lifted one? Anything to look for?? Any help would be great!! Thanks and Keep Wheelin guys!!!!

They are both great vehicles. If you go ZJ get a V8, the comfort and power is awesome. I would stick with an XJ if you want a 4.0. Like I said, they are both great vehicles, but I if had a to pick, I'd take a V8 ZJ! This is all assuming were talking about stock Jeeps. Of course either could be built to suit your needs. I didn't vote because I love them both and can't take sides. rofl

I've said this before and I'll say it again: I bought my XJ new in '97. At the time finances dictated the decision...I really wanted a V8 ZJ, but they were 10K+ more than an XJ at the time. If I ever actually do trash the XJ, I will buy a V8 ZJ and build that up.

Oh...and I voted for "Who the hell are you again". Finger

rofl rofl rofl rofl

Thanks, I guess you'll be getting a new V8 ZJ soon then?? Finger

I think if I get an XJ I won't be happy, won't be Zilla, you know? But I think the roominess of a ZJ attracts me the most ???

But you have to love more powerrrrr rrr rrrrr rofl rofl

EDIT: Oh almost forgot, I promise our new Jeep won't have a quick disconnect T-case lever rofl rofl

Yep, he did it again...the T-case lever came right out in his hand. It took about 15 minutes to get the center console out and fix it...the plan is to weld it in this winter so it doesn't happen again. rofl

One factor to consider is that there is a real absence of aftermarket stuff for the ZJ while there is a world of stuff for the XJ. Another big factor in the XJ's favor is fuel efficiency especially over the big V8 systems. The ZJ also has more electronics which is really not good for a vehicle that you will be rattling and getting wet.

Having said that, I voted for the ZJ because they are nicer, and I don't go off-road unless I lose control of the car.

That's a good point...especially with gas prices the way they are. For me, the Jeeps aren't daily drivers, so I don't really think about that. If it is going to be a daily driver, you need to take that into consideration...

There is aftermarket stuff out there for ZJ's and you can build one up pretty nicely. However, there are is a wider selection available for XJ's...

As far as the electronics, given the same years XJ's and ZJ's are pretty much identical in terms of computer systems. ZJ's did have more options for electronically controlled amenities (heated seats and the like).

Thanks guys. The Jeep will be for Trails, Snow days and cruising, just like Zilla was. Chances are a good Trux tire or MTR so, bye bye gas mileage LOL

Right now we have a 99 Ford Taurus, so it's good on gas. As far as options, it runs and drives good Wink Don't care to much on bells and whistles, just mainly the room?

I'd want leather heated seats and a decent cupholder and stereo for that stuff, so the ZJ wins with a big neener

OK, I voted XJ but I am simply biased and don't know squat anyway!

Mine's a 92 and while not the ideal platform as far as the smaller, weaker 27 spline axles in my 8.25 rear I like the fact it is somewhat simpler and therefore easier to work on than a newer more complex model.

That and I (we - Mary Jane and I) bought it only to play with off-road and since its older, not afraid to get it scratched dented or cut up.

While I haven't wheeled it ridiculously hard (to date) my main concerns for it while wheeling have been with it being able to get us back home from where we play!

My 2 cents!

Oh yeah, WELCOME BACK!

I built my xj because it was cheap, dad paid 100 bucks for it, I stole it from him. So for me free haha. And it had the dana 44 so i really lucked out. I like the way the zjs look better lifted, however the xj is cheaper to lift, zj does have more room though, and it flexes better with the coils in the rear

I guess it all depends on tastes and preferences in certain areas
