Hi everyone.

Brand new here and new owner of a recently acquired 1992 XJ.

The car did't come with any hand books and I know this is a desparately simple question, how do I get access to the headlights in order to change a bulb?

Please forgive my ignorance.

Thank you

If it's like my '93 model, it has sealed headlamps that are replaced as a unit. Access is from the front, with a phillips screwdriver. I'm not sure of the exact sequence, but it's something like this: Remove the corner direction indicator (2 screws). Remove a screw behind the direction indicator, securing the headlamp surround. Remove two or three other screws securing the surround from the front, and remove the surround. Now you should see the metal bracket that holds the headlamp, and the three or four screws that secure the bracket. Be careful as you remove the last screws, as the lamp will literally fall out. Reassemble in reverse order.

Regards,

Thanks Kari

I rather suspected they were sealed units.

Cheers

welcome! I just did mine, there were two 7mm (or maybe 8mm) screws that held on the plastic frame behind the turn signal. I know the 1/4 and 5/16 on my screwdriver did'nt fit. There is a nice combination of metric and ase on these. I like to think of it as the best of both worlds.
