I have a 93 GC 5.2L and the tranny has bitten the dust. I have available to me at no cost a very nice rebuild tranny with only 56,000 miles on it from a 96. and of course it's not directly interchangeable with mine as the tranny computer plug has a diffent number of pins.

Has any done this sort of swap?

I would gather that I would have to change the tranny computer some wiring ect. any ideas or info would be greatly accepted.

thanks chris

im not sure how much a grand cherokee cares what transmission you have . i know some vehicles would go nuts because of things like fast warm up etc .

you have a aw4 transmission ? sell your 96 for a aw4 or trade it . probably alot easyer . i know my computer is under the dash and it was a pain in the ass to swap the harness out of my jeep for the transmission .

They are two different computer systems, that's why plugs don't match. The 93 is an OBDI system and the 96 is an OBDII. I would do what Brad said...either sell it or swap it for a pre-95 model.

Thanks for all your Ideas

Yes I can see the problem with the OBD I and II computers and so far I can't find any to trade it with unfortunatly. I have been looking at the internal parts between the 2 models and they seem virtually the same other then a couple of sensors that of course talk to the obdII computer.

So I'm going to ask a tranny guy if I can use the older model sensors and plug.

Thanks Chris
