i just picked one of these up from a locakl pick and pull i was just goin to do a direct swap with my dana 35 but as i popped the the differential cover and i noticed a magnet on the inside of the cover with some metal shavings. not a lot but it was there my question is do axles do this when they roll out of the factory? is it just from normal wear and tear ?and if not should i just replace the bearings?

As long as it's fine particles, it's normal. That's what the magnet is for. Very Happy

It's a combination of normal wear from all the moving parts. Did the spiders look worn at all? They usually cause some of the metal particles. It wouldn't hurt to change the bearings, although if the diff is in good shape you probably don't need to.
