Ok,

So I'll be checking out the Jeep in a few hours (1/09/2008)... I'll post some pictures of the vehicle after I get home.

Thanks for the replies to my question, I appreciate it.

I might just "post new topic" with the photos of the 2.5L Jeep since it may not be at home in this topic.

I'll title it, "$300 XJ 2.5L"

Thanks again! I really appreciate the knowledge that is found on this forum.

ITS NOT A 2.5!!!!

The seller misinformed me, it's actually a 2.8 V6 with 200,644 miles on it. Not as beautiful as he told me! I'm still interested though.

I'll post a photo in a new topic titled "GM 2.8L Yae or Nae?"

I had a 86 MJ comanche with a 2.5 4 speed i had a 3 inch lift and 31's on it it was a real dog. I couldnt hardly pass a school buss in the morning and on the freeway it was a joke. i had to keep it dam there floored to stay at the speed limit right. since i have had 2 cherokees both with 4.0 5 speeds and i love them and i currently have 31s on it and i have no problem with power what so ever.

So if i were you i would save my money and deffinetly try and find one with the 4.0.

Well i have to defend the 2.5. Of course its not as powerful as a 4.0, but it still gets the job done. It wont go very fast because its geared really low but it is A SUV. That meens it is made to handle lower speeds better, not to race in. It will haul 1000 lbs easy. It weights the back end down a lot but thats the springs. The motor hauls it no problem. If u want to go fast or get blow away acceleration go with a 4.0. But for off road or towing/hauling the 2.5 is fine. The 2.8 has almost the same stats as the 2.5 so it will probably be close to the same. Just not as tough as the 2.5.

Don't you have a 2wd? A 2wd 2.5 can't be compared to a 4wd 4.0's off road capabilities! Sure it's fine to tow/haul with a 2.5, if you don't mind the strain you'll be putting on your Jeep. Hands down if you want an XJ for offroad use and occasional towing, get a 4.0 4x4. It's common sense! Cool

how many snails have you driven ? 4.0 doesn't even make me grin , im extremely unimpressed with the engine . it runs fine , but it doesn't do anything spectacular . its just a little 4.0 straight 6 .

you wont be passing anyone towing with ether engine .

however you definitely want the 4.0 over the 2.8 .

I know it isnt a drag car or something but when compared to a 2.5 the acceleration is a lot better. I also know the 4.0 4wd drive will go off road better, but the 2.5 2wd will still go anywhere anything NEEDS to go.

...Well. Lets not make this into a 4X4 verses 2X4.

But, for the sake of discussion. A 2WD 2.5, 2.8 or 4.0 can not be fairly compared to a 4WD 4.0 or even 2.8 or 2.5 as far as off road goes. Honestly, I have to use 4WD just to get up my drive way in the winter.
