Ok so i really need new shocks as of today it hit 116000 miles on the original shocks. Every body that rides with me complains so i am taking that as a sign. so my question is what kinds of things do i need to look for? I am not going to lift THIS jeep, i want to make this one a really nice DD because i am still in HS and I don't have the budget YET but i have plans for another jeep. But I really want it to do well both on and off road bot mostly on.

-What is the difference between NITRO AND HYDRO and are there others? -Also what have you guys used that have worked the best and where have you gotten them from?
-What problem should i be ready for?

Specifications of my jeep:
1999 XJ
4WD
no lift
4 door
4.0

I don't know what is needed?

Nitro are Skyjacker's gas-charged shock. These are pressurized and force the piston out of the shock. The Hydro are Skyjacker's unpressurized shock. Fluid in the shock is sealed inside and works to slow the movement of the shock...both in and out.

I have used Doetsch Tech3000 and Old Man Emu shocks. The DT3000's were really cheap and were good for the price. They are an unpressurized shock IIRC. The OME shocks are lightly pressurized and are usually highly recommended.

I'd be ready for rusted stem mounts on your shocks. 10 years old with over 100K on it....but this depends on the environment the vehicle has been in during its lifespan.
