We destroyed the open carrier in our Dana 30 and am looking for a replacement. I saw a locker that asked if it had ABS. Are the carriers different if it has Antilock?

I had recently called Powertrax (LockRight) tech support and asked this question about the dana 35, and I was told that there is a difference. Something to do with a difference of a "bore" size...the carrier with ABS has a smaller bore size, therefore the Lockright locker made for the carrier without ABS would not fit in it (model #s 2310 and #2311). I don't know for sure, but this is what thier tech support told me. Also keep in mind this was for the dana 35 however, and maybe the same doesn't apply for the 30.

Dana 30's use the same carriers except for Gear break. which if I remember correctly is 4:11 (could be wrong my mind is dull) and on dana 35 the carrier is the same up to gear break.. (which I think is 3:73)

Its probobly just symantics.. Answer thier question and get the locker you need..

Its kinda like when the guy at the parts counter asks you if you what size engine you have when you are buying new tires..

Or is it 2 or 4 wheel drive when you are buying brake pads ..

It doesnt matter...... But if you dont answer the question the idiots cant give you the part...

Hope that helps ....

To be fair to the parts counter idiots, it is really amazing what kind of seemingly irrelevant detail can affect which part is used. I know of a case where the type of front axle cv-joint in a 4wd passenger car depended on whether the car was high roof or normal Wink . Apparently there were four possible types for that model year, depending on engine size, presence of ABS and presence of a raised roof.

The ways of automobile manufacturers are inscrutable.

Thanks Andy for the correction...

And Kaos... I understand this.. I was just explaining my point.. In alot of cases the result of the question doesnt matter and the average counter monkey doesnt know one way or the other if it does or not..

I dont mind answering the questions .. My point was...

If you want the right part.. .Give them all the info they ask for...
