If you have the 4.o then as long as you care for it, It'll go well over 300,000 miles.

Well... First of all, what engine do you have, how do you use it and how well do you maintain it?

My '86 XJ has 200,650 total miles.

I bought the car with a rebuilt engine that has 30,000 miles on it. So, the first got 170,000 miles but that was a crappy GM V6 2.8.

From what I've seen, if you take care of your engine and don't abuse it it's not uncommon for a 4.0 Cherokee to get 220,000+ from the original engine. Although with proper care and use you can push 'em to 300,000.

I met a guy with a 2001 XJ who had 297,000 on his original drive train and had no problems at all. Of course, I don't think that Jeep ever saw dirt let alone four wheel drive.

Anyway, maximum miles are variable depending on how you drive, how you maintain your engine and sometimes they'll just get old and tired after a while.

I have the 2.5. I maintain it pretty well i think. I change the oil and all that good stuff. Mostly i just it back and forth to school but ocassionally ill take it off road. I dont do any off road trips or anything. I just take it where i want it to go at the time. It may be the highway or a log road. But i run it kinda hard on the highway sometimes. It already has 196,000 on it.

I don't know anything about the 2.5 but you should get plenty more miles out of it. Start saving for a 4.0 Jeep though.

Hey man... I'd rather have 170,000 than 200,000. Oh well, I'm happy with a vehicle that has enough mile to circle the globe over 8 times. Haha.

previous:
86 Cherokee 2.5l - 140k- still ran great but leaked oil
94 Grand Cherokee 4.0l - 170k - ran well just a bit noisy
currect:
99 Cherokee 4.0l - 108k - runs strong

I don't get much highway driving in. A co-worker has had a few 4.0's, they've driven most of them over 200k before trading up. The engine is not the mileage issue on these vehicles but things like front axle U-joints and track bars wearing out is common. So as long as you maintain the engine properly it will probably last longer than the rest of the vehicle. You'd most likely replace 50% of the Jeep before the engine dies. Shocked

I got a 95 with a 4.0 that has 312,000 miles on it and still drives like it did when it had 170,000 Very Happy But has had it troubles, such as oil leakes, power steering fluid leakes, broken water pump and stuff. All yeah got to do is fix it tho and its like nothing ever was wrong!

current engine has 310 000 kms , the old one that still ran fine(till i tore it apart) had 305 000 miles, but only 100 psi in the front cylinder the rest were in spec , its a straight 6 flaw the water pump over cools the first cylinder and it wears faster .

other cherokee has around 150 000 kms
