names mike, just got this jeep. looking to have some fun with it. its a manual with a V8. its a 1973 with a 78 body on it. What would be the size of the motor? need a few parts for it.

Also its all stock drive train. what can it handles?? would like 4" lift and 35" tires. locked rear would be nice.

as you see im a new guy, so hello everyone.

thanks mike

Welcome to the world of Jeep addiction.

If your engine is stock, it's probably a 304.

If your front and rear end are stock, they are probably a Dana 30 front, and Dana 44 rear with 3.73 gears.

With larger tires, make sure you have good brakes!

Given its age there could be any number of mods made over the years. Shortly after obtaining 'Black Betty'
we had to pull the pan to take care of a busted dipstick tube. The bottom end looked fresh despite 'Betty's' apparent age. We mic'ed it out as best we could and it looked to be a punched 360. To paraphrase Forrest Gump, when it come to dealing with Jeeps this old "CJ's are like a box of chocolates..."
I once and for all took care of that dam dipstick tube by running some plumbing tape from the valve cover to hold it fast
