I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or knows how to fix it.

1993 Cherokee Sport.
4.0 H.O.
Auto.
170K.

It always starts in decent temperatures but it takes about 5-7 seconds before it fires up. In cold weather however, sometimes it won't start for a couple minutes and takes a little gas pedal pumping to get it fired up.

The starter is brandnew and all the spark plugs are fresh.

The guy my girlfriend bought the Jeep from said that he had had starting issues with it before but after replacing the starter it was ok, it just took a little while to fire up.

I'm just curious if there is some kind of a magical fix to this issue or at least if someone can tell me why it's so sluggish starting, that would be great.

Thank you -

Tim

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it.

I don't know how new the cap and rotor is but I'm glad those items aren't insanely expensive. Thanks for the input.

sometimes it is the crank position sensor and a new one fixes it. might want to go with a high voltage coil also
