A lot, actually. With 3" of lift and trimming, that's plenty of room to stuff 31's Muddies and MAYBE 32's All Terrains, but not much more than that. 35's are going to require at the bare minimum 5.5" of lift, preferrably something like a long-arm kit (THAT might even be pushing it). There's not a lot of room underneath there with the suspension, and for 35's you are going to need some flex room or you'll bottom out on everything bigger than a pebble.

In addition to that, be aware that you can't take a lot off of the rear fender well due to the close placement of the seam back there. It's only about an inch or so of metal before you hit the side-to-body seam, and that you definitely don't want to cut into.

8" lift - fender trimming will be needed
Note:
- This is with minimal lift needed
- With a combination of aftermarket flares or TJ flares / fender trimming will help to accommodate larger tires for full articulation. (This becomes a factors with mostly 32"+ tires)

I have ~8 in my xj and my 36s fit nice. I could stand a bit more trimming, they kinda rub at full turn and flex

I wheeled with a guy on 37s and 5 inches of lift this weekend...

I would add about 2 more inches of lift and trim the hell outta it
