Hi,
I need to install an antenna for a HAM radio. I thought I would have to put a hole in the firewall, as the cable is delicate. I saw a post for AMP cable, but the model is older than mine and the '05 does not have any wires going through the door jam. Has anyone done this, or can you advise if there is an existing opening somewhere that I can fish the cable through? The connector is about 3/4", so I'll need that much space. Or, can someone walk me through how to put a hole in the firewall? Dumb it up, because I'm a girl - literally. Thanks!

Are you sure it's an '05 Cherokee?

There might be a rubber grommet on the firewall if you look closely. I'm not sure on the Grands though. But most Chrysler products had them...especially Jeeps. On my Dodge truck I simply drilled a 1/4" hole in the firewall because I couldn't quite get to the grommet. But I would have never considered drilling a 3/4" hole simply to fit the PL-259 connector. It's much cleaner to cut off the connector, fish the coax through, and install a new PL-259 connector. On the Jeeps I used either an existing grommet or used a different mount.

So it would be helpful to know what ham antenna (and mount if any) you are trying to use. Some can be taken apart so you only have to fish through the size of the coax. Some cannot though...like many magnet mounts.

Sorry, no dumbing this down. I know too many lady ham operators who would be offended at such a gesture. rofl

Wink
