Control arms. You would be better off getting an entire kit, piecing one together is a hassle and some brands just don't fit with others like they should. To answer your question, yes, to keep your suspension geometry correct the control arms would have to be longer.

Most of the kits out there are incomplete or have parts that aren't needed or have some parts that need to be upgraded anyway. There's nothing wrong with piecing one together. I didn't buy a kit or my ZJ. I wanted specific parts, and they weren't all manufactured by the same company.

As for the control arms. Do you wheel this thing or is it a street queen? If it's not regularly wheeled, I wouldn't bother with the expense of new control arms, unless you're experiencing ride or handling issues. If you do "beat" on it off road, then I would recommend some adjustable lower control arms, front and rear. If it's in you budget you should get some upper adjustables also. Adding longer lowers only, will increase your pinion angles and cause trouble down the road.

Like Orange, I pieced mine together. It took a month of sunday's to get all of the bugs worked out of it. I ended up with:
Mako adjustable control arms, front and rear
Rubicon Express adjustable rear track bar
Black Diamond adjustable front track bar
Tuff Country 3" front springs (gave about 4" of lift)
Front to rear spring swap (fronts out of an up country with a V-Cool
Rubicon Express track bar frame mount
Sky Jacker drop pitman arm
