We are asking as a united group that all Wheelers, ATV'ers or anyone camping at Spider Lake to voluntarly camp at least 30 feet from the shoreline. By doing so, we will reduce the impact of human waste and garbage that is having adverse affects on the water quality and overall health of the lake and shoreline. _________________ Nothing to see here.

Current fire restrictions
Forest conditions are drying rapidly. We expect to be in Fire Restrictions BEFORE the Fourth of July weekend.
This will be early in the year, check the link for changes. When they're in effect, campfires and charcoal barbeques are allowed only in designated developed campgrounds on this forest. Only gas stoves and lanterns can be used in the general forest. Additional restrictions to other activities may also be in effect so check back before you come. _________________ Nothing to see here. |

| Quote: | Today, Tuesday July 13, 2004 at about 9:20 AM the Board of Supervisors of the County of El Dorado, at the request of Supervisor Jack Sweeney, unanimously passed a resolution closing the area at Spider Lake. The closure will last for 120 days. The area covered by the closure goes from the South side of the Rubicon Trail to the construction haul road south of Spider Lake and runs about 500 feet East and West of Spider Lake. It DOES NOT CLOSE the Rubicon Trail to through traffic.
A copy of the County's action and a map showing the closure should be available by e-mail on Wednesday afternoon. The Forest Service will probably post a similar order on Thursday.
The closure was made for health and safety reasons based on all of the human excrement left in the area by uncaring individuals! Perhaps nature will heal the area and maybe some strong stomached individuals will help nature cure itself. It is hopeful that people learn to take better care of the Rubicon Trail and its surrounds so that the whole trail does not get closed.
As a life long user of the Rubicon Trail I hope we can convey to users the need to protect our heritage; we must take better care of the Rubicon Trail or lose our right to use it. My parents helped start the Jeepers Jamboree and I have fought to preserve our right to use it; but not to abuse it.
So, get everybody to pitch in and protect what we hold as the granddady of all off road trails.
Thank you for your help,
Jack Sweeney |

as of current the Rubicon is open partialy. THe Little sluce is closed and shall remain that way for at least a period of 90 days for the clean p of Human waste.
diging holes and filling them over when you are done just isn't enough anymore due to the amount of traffic and uneducated, uncaring people. The request that all waste be carried out should be observed to the HILT!! Just take a 5 gal bucket and a lid the seals. Pack it in, Pack it out!! _________________ www.4x4trailhunters.com |

Here's the latest word from Del.
| Quote: | RUBICON TRAIL: SPIDER LAKE CLOSURE (Now Open) 2004
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RUBICON TRAIL SPIDER LAKE: TEMPORARY CLOSURE TO PUBLIC USE Re-OPENED Nov. 10, 2004
As of 11/23/04: I cleared up a few things about the signs still up around Spider. The signs are officially kaput. They are dated with the closure. So in reality, the closure is lifted even with the signs there. So we're going to take them down and return them to the county. Spider is open. HOWEVER, stay away from the lake, PLEASE. Let's not make things messy. Now is the time for us to show that we can be responsible even when the area is open.
We should stay back from the lake with our rigs. 50 feet is the minimum that we suggest for now. It was 30, but let's get back away from it so there is no confusion.
The lake is fine and we want to keep it that way. So if you have a leaky rig, please get it fixed. But if you have a leaky rig you can't quite fix on the trail, keep it away from anything that DRAINS to the lake. If that's 200 feet, then so be it. But have clean up kits with you. Rags, oil spill recovery kits etc.
Don't camp by the lake. Camp where you can get to it or see it, but let's stay back from the shoreline as much as we can. FOR SURE, don't leave any human waste out there. Use your WAG bags or buckets or Rubi-Can's. PLEASE. We're under the microscope folks.
thank you for all of you who care and are trying to keep this trail open forever. Del
