BLM Seeks Input for Hollister Resource Management Plan (CA)

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Hollister Field Office will gather comments at three public workshops for the preparation of the Hollister Resource Management Plan Revision. The Hollister Resource Area encompasses approximately 278,000 acres of public lands in the California Central Coast Region, including the newly acquired Santa Cruz Coast Dairies, Fort Ord, and portions of Clear Creek Management Area.

Since the development of the Hollister Resource Management Plan, many social, political, and environmental changes have occurred that affect resource conditions and influence public land uses. These changes, coupled with significant population growth not anticipated in the in the original plan, have presented some complex management issues, which will benefit from an updated land use plan.

Over the next two years, BLM will be preparing a Draft Resource Management Plan Revision and Draft Environmental Impact Statement to guide the future management of public lands within the Hollister Resource Area for the next twenty years. The public is encouraged to help identify issues, questions, and concerns to be incorporated into the Plan Revision during the scoping workshops.

Scoping workshops will take place on August 11, 2004 in Coalinga, California at the Coalinga Public Library, 305 N. Fourth Street, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., August 12, 2004 in Hollister, California at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 649 San Benito Street, Room 105, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., and August 16, 2004 in San Jose, California at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Public Library, 105 E. San Fernando St., Room 225, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m..

The BLM will work closely with interested parties to develop management actions that are best suited to the management of the resources and the needs of the public. Planning criteria will be developed during public scoping to help guide the planning effort. This collaborative process will take into account local, regional, and national concerns. Early participation by all interested parties is encouraged and will help guide the planning process and determine the future management of public lands.
