We discovered this weekend that I no longer have four low, I can get into 4 high, but not low. We we engage it in 4 low the light pops on, but as soon as I shift into first it pops out. The only way is if you hold it in 4 low, then the gears grind a little. Any ideas to the problem?

keith,
sounds like it may be as simple as needing to adjust the linkage a tad. it's just that slide linkage to the left of your transfer case. you'll need a 13mm wrench - and it helps to have a friend in the jeep to move the shift lever around for you while you "find" the location of the gears. i generally loosen the nut on the slide clamp, move the transfer case arm lever into 4lo with my hand, and then move the shift lever to its proper position in the jeep. tighten the clamp back down and then try that. i've found that there is always more room at the 2hi position than at the 4lo...so try to align it to 4lo first. hope that helps.

Thanks fot the advice! I'll try it when I go back to Louisville this weekend. It sucked not having four low, while they had fun exploring these challenging hills, I stayed at the bottom to video. Didn't want to chance it without 4 low

Allright here we go again.....

After we finally get your Jeep running again, I will take a look at your linkage underneath there. When we installed that brass linkage adjuster from Daystar the linkage may have moved just enough to cause 4Lo not to want to engage. If your 4Lo won't engage after we adjust it, then my advice is to take it down to the river, put a brick on the pedal and watch it go for a swim. Call the insurance company tell them you lost it, and go buy a 99 Sahara!!
