I installed this last weekend and Shocked Shocked I am more than pleased..

This is the best mod I have ever done to my ZJ.. Any of you with a clutch fan know what I am talking about when I say you can feel that thing dragging on your engine when it comes on.. Not to mention the noise it makes..
And if you do deep water crossing you definatly want to be able to turn your fan off...

Here is what It looks like...It is a Ford 8C607 fan.. It comes in the 90 to 95 Ford Taurus and Lincoln Mark VIII with the 3.8 litre engine..

So without further ado.. Here is the picture of my new fan...

and Here is the location of my relays.. Passenger side behind overflow tank..

in that picture you can also see where I ran the wires to the switches thru the fender into the cab..

Here is what the front of my engine looks like now..

To do this install you first have to remove your clutch fan..

This is done by holding the pulley still and turning the big nut that you see in the engine pic.. (you will see it when you look at your motor..)
For 4.0 people there is no big nut ... Just 4 13 mil bolts..

Anyway remove the fan and the stock shroud and take the new fan..
It will clip right into the radiator edge where your stock shroud was..

That is one of the best parts.. IT snaps rig
ht in..
I had to fag up 2 small strips that I bolted to the stock shroud screws and then bent to fit against the fan.. I then drilled 2 holes in the electric fan shroud and put a screw and nut to hold them on.. (1/4 X 1'' and use a washer)
Wireing is simple .. Green is ground.. And one of the others is high the other is low..(three wires... Smile ) IF you have any questions just ask...
If you need help wiring the fan.. PM me .. That is a little long winded to post on open forum.. Very Happy

Good luck and enjoy...

Carl

OH almost forgot... THis is where I put my switches..

The first from the bottom is my OBA.. The 2nd is for low speed and the top is for high speed...[/img]

Looks like you can do it as well with a YJ.

I like the idea but don't particularly care for the manual switches. I can see someone in our house forgetting to turn them on. Rolling Eyes I found a site that looks like it may have an answer for this issue. Tell me what you think. Will this work?

That would be a good alternative, but the manual switchs I think are handy for deep water crossing, where you dont want the water to trash the fan motor or give it a ton of restriction that could cause it to fail. So it has some function as instead of just simplyfing the installation and controls.

For the most part the standard fan control should take care of turning the fan on and off automatically like normal. When I raced cars we just ran an on/off switch and had it wired so that there was a bright blue light on the dash next to my water temp gauge that was wired to the on position when the fan motor was off, just as a reminder that it was off.

Well I got the fan but it doesn't seem to be that great of a fit. the width is perfect but it's about 3-4 inches short. It doesn't look that way in your pics.

Any ideas why? I have it slid all the way to the bottom of the radiator(it does slide in behind the bottom tabs nicely). I can't tell from your pics if you have the same gap but just on the bottom? The radiator is a stock 93 ZJ w/V8. Any thoughts on leaving that much gap and running it anyway? Sorry if this belongs in another forum. Feel free to move it if needed.

A little gap shouldnt hurt, but the more air that can go threw the fan shroud the better. I would just use some aluminum flashing at the top there to direct the air threw the fan shroud.

Sorry I never answered this question til now.. Embarassed
I tried to center it and decided to pull it up to the top... I havent had any issues.. The hot water comes in at the bottom so ITs hasnt created a problem since it gets cool before it goes back into the engine...

I left it like it is in the picture and it is working well. Two days after I did the install we took a trip south through Chicago and got stuck in a two hour traffic jam and the outside temp was 95F. The jeep held temp nicely. Very Happy It's now been three months and it's still working great. Thanks for the excellent write-up.

how well does this work on your V8? I have a built chevy in my jeep and it is runnning on the high side big time, like 250-265 during offroad trips and in lights that are longer then about 4 or 5 minutes, always gotta keep moving or it hits these temps and then will shoot to 270 and spew. also was this just you standard 3.8L or the high performance one...and what are the difference

Anyone who has done this already: What kind of temps do you drive in. Down here in Houston it gets pretty hot, and if I run my A/C in stopped traffic, my temp tends to climb pretty high. I've been looking all over the net trying to find information on putting an electric fan on my ZJ. So far this is the most informative article I've found.

I've found a Ford fan at a Junkyard for $50 bucks, and I just want to make sure it'll keep my Jeep cool before I go ripping out the old clutch fan.

Thanks for the information!
-Jeremy

P.S. Anyone know where I can find a replacement coolant recovery tank? Mine is starting to crack.

P.P.S. Anyone know where I can find a decent grille/brush guard that replaces the entire front bumper for a reasonable price? I figure if I have to pay $420 for a new front bumper, I might as well get a real one.
