trading my ranger for a zj 94 5.2 think it's the 249 case
guy trading too says the gas mileage is poor

how do I tell if the VC part of the 249 case is going bad
I've read something about it locking up? Embarassed

Take it out for a drive and cruise along on the interstate for about 20 miles or so.. After this get off and try to do some sharp turning (around corners etc.) if it seems to 'hop' or 'skip' and making kind of a thumping noise.. its screwed.
Thats the only way I know of that will let you know if it's bad.
