Hey, Im new here and I need some help. I have a 89 cherokee. 4.0 4x4 automatic. Heres my problem. The jeep ran and shifted just fine until one day I washed out my engine compartment. After I got done getting it all cleaned out I drove it and it wont shift into 2nd until like 4500 rpms. every shift sounds like its gonna blow the motor. When it does shift It shifts smooth and I just had the tranny fluids all changed, no metal shavings. Iv went to all the local mechanics for possible fixes and they all just tell me to unplug and dry every eletrical connection and disconnect the battery to reset the computer. Nothing has work. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Check your TPS. (throttle position sensor) thats on the side of throttle body...

(Does and 89 have fuel injection???) I cant remember... Anyway.. If it does thats where I would start.. They are sensitive to water and they control shift points..

GIve that a shot and see what happens...
