Just wondering if spacers would be needed for 33s on the stock rims of a Rubicon with at least a 2.5" lift?

As long as you get the proper section wodth on the tires, no spacers are needed.

the Rubes stock MT/R's are 245/75r16 making them @30.7" in diameter with a @10" section width......and no rub. The section width is the widest part from side to side in the sidewall.

With the stock 16x8 wheels your okay to run the 285/75r16 which run @33" x 11.3" diameter and section. So you got the height and only add a hair over a 1/2" to each side width, so still safe. If only a little minor rub which can be taken care of by at the turn stops.

I have seen mildly lifted Rubicons on 305/70 and 315/75's without spacers but I bet they never went off road. Those are getting into the 2"+ over stock width range. Thats generally when you want more backset to push the tires out away from harm.

255/85R16 and 285/75R16 sizes can be run on the stock wheels without spacers.

305/70R16 and 315/75R16 sizes should either get new wheels or spacers. Keep in mind spacers may be illegal in your state. Check your local laws.
