im just wandering what where all the rear diffs that where put in a 97 grand cherokee. 6cyl.

I think they only put 44's after 96 but I have been wrong before...

Assuming I am I will say.. Dana 35 or Dana 44A those where the only options for grand Cherokees ..Ever.....


I could tell you how to identify each but the absolute easiest way is with a magnet.. It will not stick to the aluminum center section on a 44A...

I was under the impression that the 1993 GC 5.2 had Chrysler axles, was I wrong (very possible)?

some had the dana 35c- C for custom. It was shipped incomplete to chrysler and assembled by them; not very desireable either, it had C clips. The Dana 44 axle under GC's are very hard to find information for. They are commonly known as the Dana 44a (a for aluminum), but in Dana literature as well as some suppliers refer to them as the Dana 44HD. I assume that HD means heavy duty, but since the axle is in no way heavy duty I don't know what HD stands for. I guess it just sounds better than the Dana 44POS.
