Shocked
I was crawling around under my 2004 Jeep and noticed the factory Kludge TC shifter assembly. Are there any after-market improvements to this poor design?

If you have not modified your suspension or drivetrain heights, the factory linkage actually works fairly well. When you change the relative positions of the body and t-case, you start creating problems that need to be dealt with.

There isn't much that can be done as far as the linkage is concerned. The improvements available consist of relocating the outboard mount from the body tub to the t-case using a new bracket. One such kit is from Advance Adapters. Another is from Skyjacker. The SJ kit requires some minor welding. The AA is supposed to be a simple bolt-in part with no welding.

Our Tj was perfect until we fitted a 1" body lift from JKS, don't get me wrong JKS are an excellent product and i don't hesitate to recommend them.

With the kit you get a transfer lever link relocation plate and this works, but without cutting the body to allow the lever to come back fully the thing is liable to jump out of gear into neutral. When you cut the body the lever can come fully back and locate properly ...perfect again.

Thought i'd share!
