Hi All

A couple of years ago I bought a 92 Cherokee Loredo (With out an owners manual) and recently my dad a I had to replace a broken transfer case.

I was hoping that someone could answer a couple of questions:

1. I have a chilton manual that mentions two 4-wheel drive systems. A Command Trac and a Selec-Trac.
How can I tell which system I have on my Cherokee?

2. The Chilton manual also mentions a vacuum motor and hose on the front axile that is supposed to disenguage the front drive shaft when the 4-wheel drive is disenguaged. My cherokee dosen't have this vacuum motor.
Is it normal for the front drive shaft to continue turning even though the 4-wheel drive is disenguaged?

Thank you all in advance for any help.

The Selec-trac is a full time t-case, while the Command-Trac is only part time. The shift pattern will tell you which one you have:

The NP231 or "Command-Trac" t-case is part-time only. The shift pattern is 2H - 4H - N - 4L
The NP242 or "Selec-Trac" is a part-time OR full-time t-case. The shift pattern is 2wd - 4part-time - 4full-time - N - 4LO

As for the vacuum disconect motor on the front axle, the 92 and up Cherokees do not have it. So this makes it normal for the front drive shaft to turn when in 2WD.

HTH
